Quick Guide to Japan Post Re-delivery using the Internet

This entry is part 15 of 15 in the series Japan Student Guide

Japan has one of the most efficient postal delivery services thanks to the tireless delivery guys out there! So when I receive re-delivery notices, I can’t help but feel sorry for having them go back to my place. Often, I make sure that I am at home to receive packages by scheduling the delivery but there are times when scheduled deliveries are not an option and you’ll receive one of those sheets telling you that you missed a delivery. So with little Japanese, how can you schedule a redelivery? Download Google Chrome, enable translations, and follow our quick guide for Japan Post re-delivery using the internet.

Visit https://trackings.post.japanpost.jp/delivery/deli/

Turn on your Google Translate if you want to read the details. You can also just let it be since the minimal English instruction is written in gray.

Scroll down and you should be able to see this:

Enter you address’ zip code.

Scroll down further to get to this:

Although both boxes say notice number, the one on the left is actually for a tracking number [追跡番号 – tracking number (11-13 digits)] and the one on the right is for the notice number [らせ番号 -notice number (6 digits)]. If you have trouble reading these Kanji, you can distinguish which box to use by just counting the number number in your re-delivery notice.

Input either the tracking number or the notice number in the correct box.

Scroll down further to get to this box:

月 – month

– day

曜日 – Monday

曜日 – Tuesday

曜日 – Wednesday

曜日 – Thursday

曜日 – Friday

曜日 – Saturday

曜日 – Sunday

Select the attempted delivery date (the date you received the slip).

Scroll down further to get to this part:

This is probably the most challenging if you don’t know any Japanese so you might take some time here. Although both boxes say notice number, the one on the top is actually for a tracking number [追跡番号 – tracking number (11-13 digits)] and the one on the bottom is for the notice number [らせ番号 -notice number (6 digits)]. If you have trouble reading these Kanji, you can distinguish which box to use by just counting the number number in your re-delivery notice. This is where you enter the mail type which you can find in item number 2 of your re-delivery notice.

Enter your mail type in the proper box.

Scroll down further to this part:

In this part, you will classify the delivery destination as follows:
ご自宅等 – home
ご近所様に配達 – neighbor
勤務先に配達 – work place
配達を担当している郵便局の窓口でお受け取り – receive at the post-office in-charge with the delivery
他の郵便局の窓口でお受け取り – receive at other post offices

Click the left button (from the two choices shown below).

If you exceed the time limit of 20 minutes, you will receive an error. Re-do the entire step until you will be re-directed to this page:

Select the date and time of your re-delivery schedule.

Scroll down further to input your re-delivery information. The English instructions are written in gray.

Click the red button.

It should take you to the confirmation page.

Click the red button on the confirmation page.

Take note of your reception number in case you need to.

Chill and go back to your daily activities! <3
